Judea Pearl's ladder of causation has three rungs: association, intervention, and counterfactual. Almost all investment analysis lives on rung one, directional, correlational. Rung Three makes the harder claim: not that a company is well positioned, but why it captures the economics of a specific bottleneck, and what would have to break for that to stop being true. That's a falsifiable claim and getting it wrong is visible.
